Past Continuous Tense

 














Past Continuous Tense adalah pola kalimat dalam bahasa inggris yang digunakan untuk menyatakan dua peristiwa yang terjadi secara bersamaan  di waktu yang lampau.
pola kalimat:
(+) subject + was/were + verb -ing  + Object
(-) subject + was were + not + Verb-ing + object
(?) was/were + subject + verb-ing +object
contoh:

• you were listening to the radio when I came. ( kamu sedang mendengarkan radio ketika aku datang)
• when the teacher came, they were playing chess.( ketika guru datang , mereka sedang bermain catur)
• when I was crossing the street, I saw an accident.( keteie ka saya menyeberang jalan, saya melihat kecelakaan.)

keterangan waktu :
when : ketika
as      : sementara
while : sementara

Contoh cerita dalam  bahasa inggris yang menggunakan pola past continuous tense yaitu sebagai berikut.            

                                                              Too Late

       The plane was late and detectives were waiting at the air port all morning. They were expecting a valuable parcel of diamonds from south Africa. A few hours earlier, someone had told the police that thieves would try to steal the diamonds. when the plane arrived, some of the detectives were waiting inside the main building while others were waiting on the airfield. Two men took the parcel off the plane and carried it into the Customs House. While two detectives were keeping guard at the door, two others opened the parcel. To their surprise, the precious parcel was full of stones and sand.
